Rain, on my parade.

Have you ever had one of those days where everything just seems to go your way, and everything just falls into place bfore your very eyes? Well today, was NOT one of those days, and I will tell you why.

Every friday, I have mentoring at around 4pm to 5pm in town, at a place called Exodus. I love mentoring, I think it is just class. My mentee and I, get along great and I feel we really have great discussions about the bible and we have gotten much closer over the past few weeks that we have meet up. Today, as I was going over my lesson for the mentoring session, my mentee, Tina, Texts me. She asked if we could move our mentor meeting up to 3 because she had to leave at half four. I felt a little rushed as I saw that the clock already read 2.30, but if I hurried I could make it.

My teammate Haley and I set off from the house together, as she also had mentoring at the same place and the same time. The sky seemed to grow a bit darker, so we both ran back inside to grab a wee umbrella, just in case. Everytime I leave the house, I pray to God and ask him, if he would, to please hold back on the rain, just until I get to my designated destintion. It is quite a selfish prayer I know, but I still can't help but ask.I mean, seriously, I live in Northern Ireland. It rains on my parade all the time.

We set off for town, once agian, and it starts to drizzle. So much for that prayer,so we pull out our umbrellas and keep walking. We go on like that for a few minutes and at one point the rain even stops and I start thinking to myself Things are really starting to look up! As soon as I let myself think that, the rain is back and coming down faster and harder than before. Haley and I keep walking, too far to turn back now. Halfway from town and our house, the sky opens up and water rushed down upon Haley and I. The rain and the wind became so unbearably ridiculous, that it felt as if we were swimming through the rain. The wind had picked up so much that it blew our umbrellas to their breaking point and made them completely useless.

The rain was so heavy that in a matter of minutes Haley and I were completely drenched. As we kept walking we saw others walking down the street as well, who were also caught in this surprise swim we were having. Instead of giving us the “I understand your pain” look, the passer-bys just laughed at us as we wrestled our umbrellas in the strong wind and rain. I have to admit, as we were at the edge of town, the rain and the wind was just so bad, that me and Haley just put away our umbrellas and just started laughing hysterically. It was all we could do. We looked as if we had just jumped, fully clothed, into a swimming pool.

We never quite made it into town. Our guy team-mate's apartment was just right there, so we walked over to it and let ourselves inside and tried to dry off. I texted my understanding mentee and asked if we could reschedule our mentoring session for another day or time and she was so gracious and said of course. As soon as we were safe and dry inside the boys apartment, it stopped raining. As I looked in disbelief out the window at the dry sky, I saw a huge double rainbow. I don't think I have ever seen such a pretty and bright rainbow before, but I feel like it was God's way of apologizing to me and Haley for completely drenching us with rain.'

I just can't help thinking that, if I had left for my mentoring meeting at the normal time I usually do, then I would have completely missed the storm and been perfectly fine. If my mentee had never texted me to ask to move the meeting up in time, it still would have happened. Such a crazy day. I can't help but laugh, every time I think about me and Haley standing on the side of a busy street, laughing hysterically, as tidal waves of rain wash over us. I don't know why we got caught in that rain storm, but it does make for a good memory. That's the last time I ever pray for God to please hold out on the rain.
